The easiest and
most delicious
way to boost your
immune system
is to eat colourful
foods each day.
The lengthy list of
options includes
apples, oranges
bananas, pumpkin,
spinach and beetroot.
Also include fish,
lean meats and
wholegrains,
and perhaps a
multivitamin, and
you're on your way
to a healthier you.

It can be a challenge to protect your family from coughs and colds at this time
of year, especially if you have little ones at home. But it's time to get fanatical
about washing and drying hands, and to teach your kids the importance of
doing it properly. Invest in hand sanitisers, carry them with you everywhere, and
get everyone into the habit of washing their hands as soon as they get home. If
you do get sick, it really is better to stay home! You'll recover faster and people
will thank you for not sharing. Whatever's on your desk will wait. Truly, it will.
Love your skin, madly
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!
Make this your mantra. With the drying
effects of indoor heat, your skin can
become itchy and
flaky. Moisturise
each morning and
night (for great
products, see
page 160). To heal
your skin from
the inside, take
flaxseed or fish oil
capsules. And take
a lip balm with you
when you go out.

MAKE A BIG
SPLASH WITH
sj^ j *Ch COLOUR
When it comes to fashion,
women totally get the allure
of black. But on a dreary
day, there's nothing like a
vibrant flash of colour to
give you a boost. Think rich
jewel tones such as deep
reds, purples and emeralds
or a warm yellow or orange.
A scarf, bag, shoes, a piece
of striking jewellery or a
coat or cardie in a sassy
shade is just what the
doctor ordered.

Cosy up and
delight your
senses
Make your home a haven
from the cold. Plug up any
draughty spots. Scatter
chunky throws and cushions
around rooms, and put plush
rugs in the places where
people gather. Create an
intimate space with your
sofas away from potential
cold spots, add great music,
lovely aromas, and enjoy.

When it’s too wet and
blustery to go outside,
start a craft project.
Research shows that
people who create with
their hands have lower
rates of depression
than those who don’t. If
winter gets you down,
embark on a mentally
absorbing, emotionally
gratifying challenge.
There’s scrapbooking,
knitting, painting and
pottery, to name just a
few. For knitting ideas,
check out the easy
projects on page 54.
